HONORING John Fabian upon the occasion of being
named Man of the Year by the Merrick Chamber of
Commerce on January 23, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
John Fabian upon the occasion of being named Man of the Year by the
Merrick Chamber of Commerce, celebrated at its Annual Installation and
Awards Dinner on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the Chateau Briand,
Carle Place, New York; and

WHEREAS, John Fabian is being recognized with this auspicious award
for his steadfast and unwavering commitment to his community; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Merrick, New York since 1961, John Fabian
graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1974, and later joined the
Friendship Engine & Hose Company at the Merrick Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, John Fabian has served
his company in numerous capacities, including Corresponding Secretary,
Lieutenant, Captain, Chief of Department, the esteemed position he held
in 1986, 1989 and 2001; he also served as a member of its Board of
Directors; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the Friendship Engine & Hose Company, John
Fabian is also active within the 6th Battalion, using his extensive
experience while Chairman of both the Mutual Aid Chiefs and the 6th
Battalion Chiefs; and

WHEREAS, A member of numerous firemen's associations, John Fabian
was appointed to Merrick and Bellmore's New York Rising Committee by
Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2013; three years later, he was elected to the
Board of Directors of the Nassau County Francis X. Pendl Firefighters
Museum; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters exemplify the power of human
compassion and the strength of the American spirit through actions of
the most heroic magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless
dedication merit tribute and recognition by all citizens of this great
country; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of more than 40
years, Maura, and their four children, Meredith, Kelly, John and Rachel,
as well as seven grandchildren, who have all shown him love and support
and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
John Fabian is one such firefighter; throughout his years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Fabian upon the occasion of being named Man of the Year by
the Merrick Chamber of Commerce on January 23, 2020; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Fabian.
