COMMENDING David A. Tomidy upon the occasion of
retiring after 45 years of distinguished service to
the Oneida County Probation Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend David A. Tomidy upon the occasion of retiring after 45 years of
distinguished service to the Oneida County Probation Department to be
celebrated with a dinner at Daniele's Banquet Specialists in New
Hartford, New York, on Saturday, January 26, 2019; he officially retired
on Sunday, December 9, 2018; and
WHEREAS, David A. Tomidy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in
Sociology from Geneseo State University, and his Master of Arts degree
in Probation and Parole Studies from Fordham University; and
WHEREAS, David A. Tomidy began his illustrious career as a Probation
Officer with the Oneida County Probation Department on April 23, 1973;
he rose through the ranks serving in many capacities including Senior
Probation Officer and Probation Supervisor; furthermore, in 1993, David
A. Tomidy started the Intensive Supervision Unit; and
WHEREAS, From December 5, 2006 until his retirement, David A. Tomidy
held the esteemed position of Interim Probation Director; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, David A. Tomidy was appointed to the
Governor's Council on Community Reentry and Integration; he was also a
founding member of the Utica City Drug Court (2000) where he led the
Utica Drug Court Alumni Group, oversaw the Reentry Programs from
2010-2016, and served as Chairman of the Oneida County Traffic; and
WHEREAS, David A. Tomidy was a member of numerous Boards of
Directors such as: McPike Treatment Center, Center for Family Life and
Recovery, Alternatives To Incarceration, and the Regional Youth Justice
Team; in addition, he was instrumental in placing Probation Officers in
10 school districts in an effort to help reduce Juvenile Delinquency and
identify students with behavior and attendance issues; and
WHEREAS, For his hard work and committed service, David A. Tomidy
was the recipient of several honors including the 2010 Oasis Mission
Make a Difference Award, the 2009 Recovery Community Award, and the 2016
Sara Tullar Fasoldt Leadership and Humanitarian Award; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to his community, David A. Tomidy
has served as Chairman of Board of Trustees since 2010 at Tabernacle
Baptist Church; he also taught Sunday School and Youth groups for 20
years, and is the ex-President of International Board of Approved
Basketball Officials, a position he held for 26 years; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Anne, and their two
children, Jessica and Greg, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, For the past 45 years, David A. Tomidy rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Oneida County Probation
Department; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Interim Probation Director, David A.
Tomidy served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Oneida County Probation
Department, David A. Tomidy earned the admiration, esteem and affection
of his colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend David A. Tomidy upon the occasion of retiring after 45 years of
distinguished service to the Oneida County Probation Department, and to
wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to David A. Tomidy.
