COMMEMORATING the 120th Anniversary of the Nassau
County Bar Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the Nassau County Bar Association;
and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1899, the Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA)
is a professional membership association for attorneys; it is the
leading source for legal information and services for the legal
profession and the local community in Nassau County, Long Island; and

WHEREAS, The Nassau County Bar Association enjoys a membership of
private and public sector attorneys, judges, legal educators and law
students; these members have the opportunity to participate in more than
50 substantive law committees and a variety of programs which strive to
confront the challenges and changing needs of the legal profession and
the community at large; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, young attorneys draw on the experience of
their more established counterparts as lawyers work together on a
diversity of projects; partners and associates at large and small law
firms, solo practitioners, government attorneys, court-appointed
attorneys, ADAs, corporate attorneys, as well as the distinguished
judiciary have found value in the Association's diverse membership; and

WHEREAS, The nationally-recognized charitable arm of the Nassau
County Bar Association, the WE CARE Fund, was founded in 1988, by NCBA
Past President Stephen Gassman; all funds raised by the legal profession
and the community at large are distributed through charitable grants to
improve the quality of life for children, the elderly and others in need
throughout Nassau County; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the WE CARE Fund has raised more than
$3 million which has gone directly to assist more than 100 charitable
causes, some of which include the Nassau County Girl Scouts, Education
and Assistance Corporation, Nassau County Family Court Emergency Fund,
Long Island Council of Churches, Coalition Against Domestic Violence,
Mercy Haven and Interfaith Nutrition Network; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 120-year history, the Nassau County
Bar Association has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Nassau County Bar Association is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated members, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive

commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Nassau County Bar
Association; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the Nassau County Bar Association;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Nassau County Bar Association.
