HONORING John H. Murray, Jr. upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Sister Maureen
Joyce Charities Award by Catholic Charities

WHEREAS, The unity of our State and Nation is built upon the
compassion of individuals such as John H. Murray, Jr. who uphold the
values of community life and who, through their great actions, epitomize
the best of humanity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John H.
Murray, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Sister Maureen Joyce Charities Award by Catholic Charities, to be
celebrated at its 6th Annual Night at the Museum on Thursday, June 21,
2018, at the New York State Museum, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, With a focus on helping the community's most vulnerable,
Catholic Charities assists over 80,000 individuals each year in areas of
basic needs, emergency assistance, housing, care for people with
developmental disabilities, mental health services, senior services, and
maternity services; and

WHEREAS, John F. Murray, Jr. is a leader in the Capital Region
business community and a long-time supporter and friend of Catholic
Charities, having served on Catholic Charities Board of Trustees from
2000 to 2012; and

WHEREAS, Born in Cobleskill, New York, John H. Murray, Jr. is the
CEO of Rose & Kiernan Insurance, one of the largest insurance brokers in
the Northeast; and.

WHEREAS, A 1979 graduate of Siena College, John H. Murray currently
serves as Vice Chairman of its Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, John H. Murray, Jr. is the former Chairman and Director of
the Board for The Pioneer Savings Bank, a former Trustee of Christian
Brothers Academy, and a former Director of Patient Care for Northeast
Health System; he also served as Chair and a Board Member of the Capital
Region Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this extraordinary man serves on the Board of
the Business Council of New York State; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Brunswick, New York, John F. Murray, Jr. has
been a true asset to Catholic Charities for many years; he worked
closely with Sr. Maureen Joyce, RSM, and Bishop Howard Hubbard, and was
instrumental in leading the Board during its search for a new CEO; and

WHEREAS, His guidance, advice, and passion for Catholic Charities'
mission has truly made an indelible impact on this vital organization's
work and the lives of those it serves; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kelly, and their
three children, Jack, Michael and Mary Kate, who have all shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which John F. Murray, Jr. has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
John F. Murray, Jr., that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John H. Murray, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Sister Maureen Joyce Charities Award by Catholic
Charities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John H. Murray, Jr.
