CONGRATULATING the Southold/Greenport High School
Robotics Team, R.I.C.E. 870, upon the occasion of
capturing two Regional Titles

WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the areas of Science and
Technology are worthy of praise and support; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success
in educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Southold/Greenport High School Robotics Team, R.I.C.E.
870, upon the occasion of capturing two Regional Titles; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Southold/Greenport High School Robotics
Team, R.I.C.E. 870 include: Rob Elliston, Jake Mazzaferro, Will
Dickerson, Liz Jernick, Kat Kilcommons, Courtney Martocchia, Simon Mraz,
Irene Papamichael, Yao Yao Reilly, Jackson Rung-Wile, Stephen Schill,
Melody Silie, Joe Silvestro, Molly Tuthill, Paige Wachtel, Drew Wolf,
Michael Wineberger, Tyler Woodhull, Shane Costello, Aidan Crowley,
Carlos Gomez, Saylor Hughes, Eric Jensen, Kai Kaufman, Hunter Lieblein,
Samantha Tondo, Jackson Volosik, Tom Cardi, Jack Murray, Jack Reilly,
Matthew Schill, Ava Silvestro and Jacob Volosik; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the
Southold/Greenport High School Robotics Team captured a first place
victory at the 2019 Finger Lakes Regional Competition on March 14-16,
2019, at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT); and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this win clinched a spot in the World
Championships in Detroit, considered the largest student-focused STEM
celebration in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Two weeks later, R.I.C.E. 870 competed against 47 teams to
win the Small Business Partnerships of Long Island Regional No. 2 on
March 28-30, 2019, at Hofstra University; additionally, they were the
proud recipients of the Entrepreneurship Award in recognition of their
strong business plan; and

WHEREAS, This is the first Southold/Greenport High School Robotics
Team to win two regional competitions in one season; the team is now
ranked in the top 10% of all active FIRST Robotics Teams worldwide; and

WHEREAS, The incredible talent displayed by this team is due in
great part to the efforts of Team Advisors Christine Schade and Bob
Gammon, skilled and inspirational tutors respected for their ability to
develop potential into excellence; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose,
these students now stand honorably, with just pride in their
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges,
understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided
by their teachers, advisors and parents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Southold/Greenport High School Robotics Team, R.I.C.E.
870, upon the occasion of capturing two Regional Titles; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Southold/Greenport High School
Robotics Team, R.I.C.E. 870, and Team Advisors Christine Schade and Bob
Gammon.
