COMMENDING Class of 2022 Valedictorian Devin
Casano and Salutatorian Emily Lavin of H. Frank
Carey High School, in recognition of their
outstanding accomplishments

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the youth of today, the
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Class of
2022 Valedictorian Devin Casano and Salutatorian Emily Lavin of H. Frank
Carey High School, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments;
and

WHEREAS, Valedictorian Devin Casano and Salutatorian Emily Lavin
represent the best of developed potential inherent in our most precious
resource, our youth; their achievements have brought enduring honor to
their families and communities and should be recognized and saluted; and

WHEREAS, Devin Casano is regarded at H. Frank Carey High School as
the epitome of a true academic and a role model; and

WHEREAS, Devin Casano has been inducted into the English, science,
social studies, math, foreign language and National Honor societies, and
his performance on advanced placement exams earned him the title of AP
Scholar with Distinction; and

WHEREAS, He is also an active member of the school community,
serving as Vice President of the National Honor Society and a member of
the Future Business Leaders of America; furthermore, he participated on
the Sewanhaka Central High School District's Student Community
Conversation Committee; and

WHEREAS, Outside of school, Devin Casano is a fire explorer; he
recently earned the title of Lieutenant as a result of the work he has
done with the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Devin Casano was also a participant in the Nassau County
District Attorney's Student Advisory Council and in New York State
Senator Anna Kaplan's Youth Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, Emily Lavin is known at H. Frank Carey High School for her
tremendous character and for demonstrating leadership qualities; and

WHEREAS, Emily Lavin was named an AP Scholar with Distinction after
scoring a five on seven out of eight advanced placement exams; she also
earned a Silver Medal for her performance on the AATI National Italian
Exam; and

WHEREAS, An active member of the school community, Emily Lavin has
served as Vice President of National Honor Society, a co-Founder and
Treasurer of Girls for Girls Club, Editor for the school yearbook, Staff

Writer for the Carey Clipper, member of the Varsity Lacrosse Team, and
member of both Think Pink and the Class of 2022 Board; and

WHEREAS, Emily Lavin has also been inducted into departmental honor
societies for social studies, science, world language, English and math;
and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Emily Lavin has been a co-Captain for Relay
for Life and a Cheerleading Coach for the Franklin Square Warriors; and

WHEREAS, Valedictorian Devin Casano and Salutatorian Emily Lavin may
now stand with pride as they assess their achievements, experience the
satisfaction of their labors and the joy of their accomplishments, eager
to face the new experiences of a challenging world; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Class of 2022 Valedictorian Devin Casano and Salutatorian Emily
Lavin of H. Frank Carey High School, in recognition of their outstanding
accomplishments; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Valedictorian Devin Casano and Salutatorian Emily Lavin.
