CONGRATULATING pitcher Tommy Ventimiglia upon the
occasion of being drafted in the 18th round of the
2021 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland
Guardians

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary athletes who excel in professional athletics,
distinguishing themselves through notable achievements and representing
this great Empire State with pride and determination; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate pitcher Tommy Ventimiglia upon the occasion of being
drafted in the 18th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft
by the Cleveland Guardians; and

WHEREAS, A native of Coram, New York, and a star right-handed
pitcher for Longwood High School, Tommy Ventimiglia is only the second
player in his school's history to be drafted to the MLB; and

WHEREAS, During his superlative 2021 senior season, Tommy
Ventimiglia went 4-2, posting a 1.22 ERA, recording 42 strikeouts, and
limiting hitters to a .190 BAA across 28.2 innings with his strong
lineup of pitches which includes a low 90s fastball, cutter, slider,
curveball, and changeup; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his stellar high school career, Tommy
Ventimiglia pitched for the San Diego Padres Scout Team at the WWBA
World Championship held at the Boston Red Sox's spring-training facility
in Fort Myers, Florida, allowing one hit in 3 1/3 scoreless innings and
recorded eight strikeouts in his team's lone win in three games in group
play; and

WHEREAS, Prior to officially signing with the Guardians, Tommy
Ventimiglia had been committed to playing baseball at Stony Brook
University where he attended Coach Matt Senk's youth camps for years;
and

WHEREAS, Tommy Ventimiglia has dreamed of playing in the big leagues
since he first picked up a glove at the age of five; today, this gifted
athlete, has become a role model in the sport of baseball; his character
and achievements stand as a sterling example and inspiration to all who
would aspire to success; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Tommy Ventimiglia is due
in great part to the efforts of his many mentors and coaches throughout
the years, skilled and inspirational tutors respected for their ability
to develop potential into excellence; and

WHEREAS, The auspicious occasion of his selection in the 18th round
of the MLB Draft provides a unique opportunity for this Legislative Body
to honor Tommy Ventimiglia for his extraordinary athletic

accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill, dedication and
commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate pitcher Tommy Ventimiglia upon the occasion of being
drafted in the 18th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft by the
Cleveland Guardians; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tommy Ventimiglia.
