COMMEMORATING the 24th Anniversary of Sean Casey
Animal Rescue of Brooklyn, New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that all living
creatures have value and to recognize and appreciate the service,
companionship, loyalty, unconditional love and happiness animals bring
to the lives of New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body hereby recognizes and pays tribute to
those organizations and individuals who would faithfully dedicate
themselves to the care and protection of animals; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 24th Anniversary of Sean Casey Animal Rescue of
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Registered with the New York State Department of
Agriculture and Markets, Sean Casey Animal Rescue is a nonprofit,
no-kill shelter specializing in the rescue, rehabilitation and placement
of dogs, cats, reptiles, birds and small mammals; and
WHEREAS, Proudly serving New York City's homeless animals since
1998, Sean Casey Animal Rescue takes in over 2,000 animals per year, the
most of any other private rescue in the State of New York; furthermore,
since its inception, this vital organization has saved more than 8,000
animals from the city's Animal Care and Control (ACC) alone; and
WHEREAS, With a mission to aid unfortunate animals in the interest
of a higher quality of life, Sean Casey Animal Rescue takes in rescued,
confiscated, neglected, injured, ill, unmanageable, or otherwise
unwanted animals from private owners, zoos, shelters, and other public
organizations; and
WHEREAS, These animals are cared for and/or rehabilitated before
they are found healthy, happy homes, whether it be through adoption to
qualified candidates or legally released into habitats suitable to the
specific species; and
WHEREAS, A community-based and family friendly organization, Sean
Casey Animal Rescue welcomes visitors and remains focused on educating
pet owners and animal lovers about the needs and responsibilities of pet
ownership as well as behavior and training issues and health and
wellbeing concerns; and
WHEREAS, In addition to providing local children the opportunity to
volunteer to help take care of the animals while learning compassion and
proper feeding, grooming and handling skills, Sean Casey Animal Rescue
also accepts SCAR participates in innovative job training and community
service programs through high schools in Brooklyn; these programs teach
disadvantaged students about care and responsible ownership of
domesticated animals; and
WHEREAS, Sean Casey Animal Rescue also strives to educate the public
about respecting, understanding and coexisting with the natural wildlife
of New York City through its various programs and events; in conjunction
with its licensed wildlife rehabilitators, the organization can inform
the public on the way to handle situations involving wildlife as well as
rehabilitating injured and orphaned animals; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Founder and Director Sean Casey was licensed by
New York State as an Assistant Wildlife Rehabilitator, and thus wildlife
such as squirrels, possums, ducks and geese were added to the list of
animals coming through the shelter on their way to appropriate habitats;
and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 24-year history, Sean Casey Animal
Rescue of Brooklyn has demonstrated continuous service to the residents
and communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of Sean Casey Animal Rescue is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff and volunteers, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Sean Casey Animal
Rescue; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 24th Anniversary of Sean Casey Animal Rescue of
Brooklyn, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sean Casey Animal Rescue, Brooklyn, New York.
