COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Village
of New York Mills, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Village of New York Mills, New
York, to be celebrated on Tuesday, March 29, 2022; and

WHEREAS, A western suburb of the City of Utica, New York Mills is a
village in Oneida County, New York; and

WHEREAS, Incorporated as a village on April 4, 1922, New York Mills
is located in the very heart of New York State, in close proximity to
the Mohawk River, many lakes and the spectacular Adirondack Mountains;
and

WHEREAS, With an abundance of natural beauty, on every street there
are spacious green lawns and gardens to be seen, fun to be had, and
places to sit for a while; the parks are plentiful and the small
ballpark field was enlarged to accommodate the growing needs of
residents; and

WHEREAS, In the very center of the Village of New York Mills there
are two adjacent, extensive parks, one with a colorful and delightful
playground, and the other, dedicated to local Veterans, featuring a
covered pavilion where countless summer festivities and concerts have
been held; and

WHEREAS, New York Mills' original one-room Library of 1930 was
replaced with a beautiful stone building on the corner of Maple and Main
Streets in 1973, and houses more than 24,000 books, audiotapes and
videotapes; and

WHEREAS, The local post office was moved to a new building on the
corner of Church and Main Street in 1960, and in 1958 a beautiful public
Junior and Senior High School was built on Marauder Boulevard; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, the village is extremely proud of its
dedicated volunteer Fire Department where the firemen are very well
trained, proficient and well equipped to handle all emergencies; and

WHEREAS, The Village of New York Mills has always been optimistic
and vibrant with hope and excitement; its Board members are residents
who share the same dreams and aspirations of making this Village a
better place to live; and

WHEREAS, A truly charming community, there is a special comfort in
the safety of a small village where the streets are named after familiar
people and landmarks; and


WHEREAS, Of historic origin, and remaining fruitful over the ebb and
flow of decades of growth and change, the Village of New York Mills
continues to provide the quintessential quality of life for its
residents; and

WHEREAS, The residents of the Village of New York Mills have a
bright outlook for the future of their community, which remains a
beautiful place in which to live, work and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of New York Mills' rich history and enduring
contribution to the State of New York, this Legislative Body is proud to
pay tribute to this spirited village upon the occasion of its 100th
Anniversary; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Village of New York Mills, New
York, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in
the life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Village of New York Mills, New York.
