COMMENDING Scott Peeters and Alyssa Peeters in
recognition of their heroic actions in saving the
life of their mother, Alisa Peeters
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring, concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, remaining calm
under pressure, in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of human life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is proud to honor
an individual who would serve to protect it; Scott Peeters and Alyssa
Peeters are two such individuals; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Scott
Peeters and Alyssa Peeters in recognition of their heroic actions in
saving the life of their mother, Alisa Peeters; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m.,
Centereach, New York, resident Alisa Peeters suddenly realized both her
leg and arm had gone numb; as she fell onto her bed, she screamed for
her daughter Alyssa to help her; and
WHEREAS, The 12-year-old immediately ran to her mother and realizing
there was something terribly wrong, she got her 18-year-old brother
Scott and they both returned to their mother's room to assist her; and
WHEREAS, Scott Peeters and Alyssa Peeters then called their other
sister Danielle Cocossa, who lives 10 minutes away, to come and drive
their mother to the hospital where tests confirmed Alisa had suffered a
stroke; after an emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in her brain,
she made a full recovery; and
WHEREAS, Senior Scott Peeters and seventh grader Alyssa Peeters
should be meritoriously commended for remaining calm under pressure and
for showing valor and true courage while performing a lifesaving deed;
and
WHEREAS, Through their spontaneous and heroic actions, Scott Peeters
and Alyssa Peeters demonstrated their character and their compassion for
the welfare of others, personifying, by virtue of their actions, the
collective concern of ordinary citizens across the community of New York
State who voluntarily respond without the thought of reward when others
are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Scott Peeters and Alyssa Peeters in recognition of their heroic
actions in saving the life of their mother, Alisa Peeters; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Scott Peeters and Alyssa Peeters.
