COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Rye Youth
Council

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Rye Youth Council to be celebrated
on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Whitby Castle, Rye, New York; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1972, Rye Youth Council supports the social,
emotional, and mental health of children, teens and young adults; and

WHEREAS, With programs centered around promoting social emotional
learning (SEL) among youth, Rye Youth Council's workshops, programs and
clubs provide a platform where youth are empowered to meet life's
challenges with confidence and competence; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, its after-school programs include leadership
training, peer mentoring, employment services, career exploration, and
community service, while its in-school curriculum addresses topics such
as bullying, conflict resolution, peer pressure and sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, SEL is the process through which all young people and
adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop
healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective
goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain
supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions; and

WHEREAS, All Rye Youth Council programs address the five broad,
interrelated areas of social emotional learning competence, including
self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills
and responsible decision-making; and

WHEREAS, For five decades, this vital organization has been
instrumental in helping countless local youth get involved in their
community and make a difference in the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 50-year history, Rye Youth Council
has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities
which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of Rye Youth Council is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its dedicated Board of Directors, staff and interns,
whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an
impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization
and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Rye Youth Council; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Rye Youth Council; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rye Youth Council.
