HONORING Hailee Youn upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Glenn T. Seaborg
Award

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success
in educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Hailee Youn upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Glenn T. Seaborg Award, chosen by the 40 finalists of the Regeneron
Science Talent Search; and

WHEREAS, Hailee Youn received this prestigious award for best
exemplifying the spirit of her fellow students and the extraordinary
attributes of nuclear chemist Glenn T. Seaborg, who won the Nobel Prize
for Chemistry in 1951, and served on the Society's Board of Trustees for
30 years; and

WHEREAS, With this great accolade, Hailee Youn was given the
opportunity to speak on behalf of the Class of 2022 at the Regeneron
Science Talent Search 81st Annual Awards Ceremony which was held on
Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in Washington D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the areas of Science and
Technology are worthy of praise and support; and

WHEREAS, The Regeneron Science Talent Search, founded in 1942, is
the country's oldest student research competition and is based in
Westchester County; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Roslyn High School in Roslyn Heights, New York,
Hailee Youn was selected from 300 semifinalist scholars from more than
1,800 highly qualified entrants based on their projects' scientific
rigor and their potential to become world-changing scientists and
leaders; and

WHEREAS, Hailee Youn's project was entitled "Why We Vote: How
Positive Descriptive Norms and Holding a Minority Political Viewpoint
Increase Citizens' Intention and Responsibility to Vote"; and

WHEREAS, In achieving this high academic honor, Hailee Youn takes
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence she brings to her family, friends, community and school; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Hailee Youn upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Glenn T. Seaborg Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Hailee Youn.
