COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Young
Israel of Scarsdale
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in New York State is
greatly enriched by its religious institutions and the faithful and
generous service of those who devote themselves to endeavors of family,
faith, and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of such magnanimous conduct and bearing which
demonstrate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Young Israel of Scarsdale to be
celebrated with a Dinner on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in Scarsdale, New
York; and
WHEREAS, A Modern-Orthodox Synagogue, the Young Israel of Scarsdale
is a dynamic, vibrant, caring and diverse community which is constantly
expanding its programming and actively growing its membership; and
WHEREAS, The Young Israel of Scarsdale believes in the principles of
Unity (Achdut), Community (Kehilla) and Responsibility for all Jews
(Areyvut), and seeks to engage and inspire its members through a variety
of means, including soulful moments of Prayer, stimulating discourses of
Torah Study, and creative children's programming; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this vital institution fosters an atmosphere
of spiritual growth and continued commitment to Halacha, Am Yisrael, and
Eretz Yisrael; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, five young and idealistic families gathered
together to form the Young Israel of Scarsdale; the families sought a
synagogue that would be filled with spirit and meaning, and would be
rooted in Jewish tradition; and
WHEREAS, The congregation's first home was in a house at 43 Baraud
Road in Scarsdale, New York, where scores of families were attracted to
the aspirations of the synagogue's founders; and
WHEREAS, In less than a decade, the congregation flourished and the
demand for expanded facilities led to the construction of a new building
on Weaver Street in Scarsdale; continuing to grow through the years, the
congregation completed another expansion of its facilities in 1995,
building a new sanctuary and social hall; and
WHEREAS, The Young Israel of Scarsdale has developed into one of the
most vibrant orthodox synagogues in the State of New York, and continues
its tireless work of forging links in the chain of continuity so Judaism
will be transmitted to future generations; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Young Israel of Scarsdale offers countless
programs and initiatives, including an energetic youth department which
is constantly striving to fully engage its children, an active
Sisterhood which organizes many events throughout the year, and an adult
education program which promotes lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Head Rabbi Jonathan
Morgenstern and Associate Rabbi Nuriel Klinger, the Young Israel of
Scarsdale now stands on the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet the
challenges of the coming decades, while retaining that spiritual resolve
which has so characterized its glorious past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Young Israel of Scarsdale; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rabbi Jonathan Morgenstern, the Young Israel of
Scarsdale.
