MOURNING the death of Rose Mary Spoth, beloved
mother, grandmother and pillar of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Rose Mary Spoth, an extraordinary woman of
indomitable faith and dedication whose purposeful life will long serve
as a standard to which others might aspire; and

WHEREAS, Rose Mary Spoth of Amherst, New York, who helped operate
one of the largest family farms in northern Erie County, died on Monday,
March 21, 2022, at the age of 84; and

WHEREAS, Born the second of three children to Otto and Loretta
Daigler on May 31, 1937, Rose Mary Daigler grew up in Swormville, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Rose Mary Daigler and Donald Spoth Sr. were introduced by
his sister and they were united in marriage in 1958; the couple shared
many wonderful years together until Donald passed away in 1992; and

WHEREAS, A woman of many talents, Rose Mary Spoth distinguished
herself in her profession and by her sincere dedication and substantial
contribution to the welfare of her community; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Rose Mary Spoth worked in various
capacities for her family-owned business, the 750-acre Donald Spoth Farm
and Greenhouse which was started by her husband's grandfather in 1900;
she operated the roadside vegetable stand and helped in the greenhouse,
as well as in sales; in recent years, she was the office manager; and

WHEREAS, A devout woman of indomitable faith and dedication, Rose
Mary Spoth was active in Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Pendleton, New
York, where she was chairwoman of bereavement luncheons and a member of
the Altar and Rosary Society; she was a lay associate of St. Luke's
Mission of Mercy and organized the annual corn roast on the Spoth farm;
and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, with a steadfast and unwavering commitment to
her community, Rose Mary Spoth was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of
the North Amherst Fire Company for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her beloved husband, Rose Mary Spoth was
predeceased by her siblings, Frank Daigler and Barbara Lester; she is
survived by her loving children, Donald Jr., Daniel, Michael, Alan
(Julie) Spoth and Dulce (Jose) Velazquez; and six grandchildren, AJ,
Stephen, Tristan, and Valencia Spoth, Stephen (Cailey) Stoeckl and
Chelsea (John) Monhien; and

WHEREAS, Rose Mary Spoth's infinite selflessness and benevolence
will shine on through her family's vivid and happy memories; her insight
and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to
the countless lives she touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Rose Mary Spoth leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing woman; she
will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Rose Mary Spoth, and to express its deepest
condolences to her family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Rose Mary Spoth.
