HONORING Joanne Silverman upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Miriam Award by UJA
Long Island Women and Hope Against Domestic Violence
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joanne
Silverman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Miriam Award by UJA Long Island Women and Hope Against Domestic
Violence, to be celebrated at its Spring Event on Wednesday, May 4,
2022, at the Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation; and
WHEREAS, Joanne Silverman is receiving this prestigious award for
her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her community; she is truly
proud to be a part of this vital organization which strives to support
women and families facing poverty and domestic violence and nurtures
mental health and well-being; and
WHEREAS, Joanne Silverman grew up on Long Island and attended Roslyn
public schools; after graduating from Northwestern University, she
worked at Marine Midland Bank in the real estate finance division; after
two years, she joined her family business, Bronstein Properties, working
full time until the arrival of her children, and continues to be
actively involved assisting in the management of the company's real
estate portfolio; and
WHEREAS, Growing up, Joanne Silverman's parents instilled the
commitment to giving back to the community; following in her parents'
footsteps, she has volunteered her time and energies to numerous events
at Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation and was co-chair of the education
committee; and
WHEREAS, Through her valuable work at the synagogue, Joanne
Silverman was introduced to UJA-Federation where she became involved in
various hands-on opportunities and taught her children the importance of
tzedakah; over the years, she has co-chaired numerous events including
Summerfest, Spring Event, Family Helping Families, Supplies for Success,
and Family Mitzvah Day; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Joanne Silverman is a Lion of Judah and a member
of the Long Island Women's Cabinet; and
WHEREAS, Joanne Silverman has traveled on several UJA missions to
learn about the Jewish community in other parts of the world and through
the Sid Jacobson JCC she delivers food packages to local families in
need; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Scott, and their
two children, Jamie and Max, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joanne Silverman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Miriam Award by UJA Long Island Women and Hope Against Domestic
Violence; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joanne Silverman.
