HONORING Trooper Todd A. Claremont posthumously
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Trooper William V. McDonagh Community Service
Award by the New York State Police

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those exemplary public servants who devoted their lives to
preserving and protecting such values; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Trooper Todd
A. Claremont posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Trooper William V. McDonagh Community Service Award by
the New York State Police to be celebrated at the 46th Annual Awards Day
Ceremony on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the State Police Academy,
Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award was established in honor of the late
Trooper William V. McDonagh, who was killed in the line of duty on
December 14, 1975, and who participated in numerous worthy events to
better his community; Trooper Todd A. Claremont truly epitomized Trooper
McDonagh's ideals and beliefs; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Gabriels, New York, Todd A. Claremont began
his illustrious 28-year career in law enforcement in 1994 with the
Saranac Lake Village Police Department, where he quickly dedicated
himself to doing all he could to enhance the safety and well-being of
the small Adirondack community he called home; and

WHEREAS, During this time, Todd A. Claremont gave tirelessly of his
time and energies as Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician, DARE
Officer/Instructor, Boat Patrol member and Bike Rodeo coordinator,
reaching countless children and families in these community service and
safety education roles; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Todd A. Claremont began his service as a member of
the renowned New York State Police Department on January 7, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his 20-year tenure, Trooper Todd A. Claremont
served in several capacities, including as Child Passenger Safety Seat
Technician, Breath Test Recertification Officer, Radar Instructor, EVOC
Instructor, BTO Instructor, State Police Youth Program Counselor,
ATV/UTV Operator and Division Snowmobile Operator; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his profession, Trooper Todd A. Claremont's
final assignment was as the Troop B Traffic Safety Officer, the esteemed
position he held until his untimely death on January 17, 2022, mere days
prior to his official retirement; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Trooper Todd A. Claremont was an active participant in the
Special Olympic Torch Run and many other New York State Police events;
and


WHEREAS, In addition to putting his heart and soul into everything
he accomplished as a New York State Trooper, this extraordinary man also
served as a member of the Paul Smiths-Gabriels Fire Department where he
served his community with honor and distinction for more than 30 years;
and

WHEREAS, Trooper Todd A. Claremont's selfless devotion to his
profession, fellow Troopers, and the community-at-large are in keeping
with the finest traditions of the New York State Police; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Todd A. Claremont posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Trooper William V. McDonagh Community
Service Award by the New York State Police; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of New York State Trooper Todd A. Claremont.
