CONGRATULATING Dr. Mark W. Lauria upon the
occasion of his retirement after 13 years of
dedicated service as Executive Director for the New
York State Association of Independent Schools
(NYSAIS)

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Dr. Mark W. Lauria upon the occasion of his retirement
after 13 years of dedicated service as Executive Director for the New
York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS); and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mark W. Lauria earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in
literature and psychology from Claremont McKenna College and both his
Master of Arts and Ph.D. in educational administration from Claremont
Graduate University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mark W. Lauria began his long and distinguished career
in education with the Ontario-Montclair School District in Canada where
he was an assistant superintendent, director of certificated personnel,
principal, assistant principal, and teacher; and

WHEREAS, After moving to the United States, Dr. Mark W. Lauria
served as Head of School at a Southern California independent school,
and President of the Board of Trustees for the California Association of
Independent Schools (CAIS); and

WHEREAS, Since 2009, Dr. Mark W. Lauria has held the title of
Executive Director for the New York State Association of Independent
Schools (NYSAIS), the position from which he will officially retire in
2022; and

WHEREAS, In addition to this role, Dr. Mark W. Lauria was an active
member of several non-profit boards, and is currently serving as Chair
of the Board of Trustees for the Educational Records Bureau (ERB),
Treasurer of The Parents League of New York, and Treasurer of the
International Council Advancing Independent School Accreditation
(ICAISA); he also serves on the Executive Committee of the Independent
School Association Network (ISAnet) and the Cloud Forest School
Foundation (CFSF) in Monteverde, Costa Rica; and

WHEREAS, In his much-deserved retirement, Dr. Mark W. Lauria is
looking forward to traveling more and spending time with his beloved
family; and

WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent
upon individuals such as Dr. Mark W. Lauria, who have dedicated their
lives as educators, nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who have worked to support our proud
tradition of education by providing their skills and talents to our
schools; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Mark W. Lauria upon the occasion of his retirement
after 13 years of dedicated service as Executive Director for the New
York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Mark W. Lauria.
