HONORING Firefighter James Gilliland upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 30 years of dedicated service to the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department

WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble volunteer firefighters who exhibit courage and
bravery every day in the course of their duties; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer Firefighters exemplify the power of human
compassion and the strength of the American spirit through actions of
the most heroic magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless
dedication merit tribute and recognition by all citizens of this great
country; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Firefighter James Gilliland upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition after 30 years of dedicated service to the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department to be celebrated at its Annual
Inspection/Installation Dinner on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in Melville,
New York; and

WHEREAS, James Gilliland joined the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department in 1992; he was assigned as a firefighter to Engine Company
No. 1, prior to which he served Nassau County as a respected asset to
both fire and rescue emergencies; and

WHEREAS, A certified EMT instructor, James Gilliland is also the
QA/QI chairman; in this capacity, he has arranged for study groups to
assist rescue company members achieve their emergency medical
certifications; in addition, this knowledgeable man has instructed
coaches and parents from various athletic organizations in CPR; and

WHEREAS, James Gilliland was the proud recipient of the 1992 EMT of
the Year Award for successfully delivering and resuscitating a newborn
in transit to the hospital; and

WHEREAS, Contributing to the emergency medical services since 1986,
James Gilliland has continued to elevate his level of training,
beginning as an EMT, and attaining certification as an EMT-CC and
EMT-Paramedic; he is currently an EMT instructor throughout Suffolk
County; and

WHEREAS, His special commitment, patience, and dedication to educate
students and residents in emergency medical care remains a valuable
contribution; and

WHEREAS, Firefighters unwaveringly serve our great State with pride,
valor, and integrity; these respected volunteers are often the first to
respond to an emergency, whether the emergency is a fire, transportation
accident, natural disaster, act of terrorism, medical crisis, or spill
of hazardous materials; and


WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
James Gilliland is one such firefighter; throughout 30 years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Firefighter James Gilliland upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition after 30 years of dedicated service to the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Firefighter James Gilliland.
