MOURNING the death of Irving O. Farber, loving
husband, father and grandfather, and devoted member
of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Irving O. Farber was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Irving O. Farber, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Irving O. Farber, a longtime resident of Mount Kisco and
Bedford, New York, died on August 22, 2021, at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 19, 1941, Irving
O. Farber moved to New York as a young child; he went on to graduate
from Brooklyn Law School and was admitted to the Bar in 1968; and
WHEREAS, Irving O. Farber excelled as a trial attorney for more than
54 years; over the course of his illustrious career, he litigated and
tried hundreds of cases involving matters such as defamation, explosion
cases, medical malpractice, airline deregulation claims, legal
malpractice, elder law and litigated guardianship matters; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he authored multiple articles in various legal
publications and lectured extensively on trial practice; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Irving O. Farber served as a volunteer fireman with the
Independent Fire Company for 14 years, during which time he gave
tirelessly of his time and energies as an engineer and member of the
bylaw committee as well as the 9/11 memorial committee, creating a
granite monument fountain and park in Mount Kisco honoring firefighters
and all those who lost their lives on that fateful day; and
WHEREAS, Irving O. Farber was also a long-time member of the
Northern Westchester Hospital Ethics Committee; and
WHEREAS, The proud recipient of numerous awards and accolades,
Irving O. Farber was recognized as Man of the Year and was inducted to
the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Irving O. Farber and the former Jean Mamlin were united in
marriage on November 25, 1978; the couple was blessed to share nearly 43
years of marriage and countless beautiful memories; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Irving O. Farber is survived by
his devoted son, Brian; adored daughter, Lauren (Sean Kelly); and
precious twin grandsons, Andrew and Patrick Kelly who were the pride of
his life; as well as two sisters, Sarah (Ted Hawkins) and Marge Saberg;
sister-in-law, Bonnie Kupper; and many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Irving O. Farber's infinite selflessness and benevolence
will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight
and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to
the countless lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Irving O. Farber leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will
be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Irving O. Farber, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Irving O. Farber.
