COMMENDING the Glen Cove Downtown Business
Improvement District upon the occasion of
celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Downtown Sounds

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to those organizations whose commitment to promoting the
richness and diversity of the arts and entertainment world has
contributed to the strength, vitality, and cultural enrichment of their
communities and the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District upon the
occasion of celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Downtown Sounds; and

WHEREAS, Located near the waterfront, the Glen Cove Downtown
Business Improvement District (BID) supports downtown businesses and
property owners, and has designed a variety of projects, services and
events that benefit all within the designated district; and

WHEREAS, One such project is Downtown Sounds, an annual nine show
concert series which is presented to the citizens and visitors at the
Village Square in downtown Glen Cove; and

WHEREAS, Began as Jazz in the Square in 1997, local musicians
entertained modest crowds gathered in the plaza in the heart of
downtown; now known as Downtown Sounds, it attracts a variety of
headline acts and main streets are closed to traffic to accommodate much
larger and more diverse crowds; and

WHEREAS, For nine weeks, Downtown Glen Cove comes alive with great
music, outdoor dining, and good times which attracts crowds from both
near and far; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Glen Cove BID is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District upon the
occasion of celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Downtown Sounds; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District.
