COMMEMORATING the 20th Anniversary of the Crown
Heights North Association, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Crown Heights North Association,
Inc., to be celebrated with a myriad of events throughout the year,
including a Walking Tour, Movie Night in Brower Park and Rooftop Music
at the Brooklyn Children's Museum; and

WHEREAS, The Crown Heights North Association (CHNA) is a charitable
organization dedicated to the preservation of the historic buildings of
the Crown Heights North community, and the revitalization, economic
advancement, housing stabilization and cultural enhancement of its
residents; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 2002 by Denise Brown and Deborah Young,
neighbors and friends, the Crown Heights North Association has grown to
become one of Crown Heights' most important non-profit community
organizations; and

WHEREAS, On April 27, 2007, with unprecedented community and
political support, spearheaded by CHNA, Phase 1 of a multi-phased plan
to landmark Crown Heights North was unanimously passed by the City
Council and 472 buildings were the beginning of a larger Crown Heights
North Historic District; Phase 2 and Phase 3 were designated in 2011 and
2015, respectively; and

WHEREAS, Recognizing and respecting the rights of homeowners, a
major purpose of CHNA is to maintain an ongoing collaboration with
community residents and business owners, to stabilize and preserve the
architectural heritage of the housing stock; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, CHNA is committed to working with elected
representatives, government officials, Community Board 8, and various
civic organizations to secure and maintain their support; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission of Pride, Preservation,
Community and Roots, Crown Heights North Association highlights the
aesthetically valuable legacy of the many historic buildings
concentrated in the neighborhood and preserves the area's marvelous
heritage for posterity; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 20-year history, the Crown Heights
North Association has demonstrated continuous service to the residents
and communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Crown Heights North Association is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated members, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Crown Heights North Association,
Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Crown Heights North Association, Inc.
