COMMENDING John W. Seaman posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend John W.
Seaman posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, John W. Seaman was born on October 17, 1937 in Wantagh, New
York, to George and Isabel Seaman; in 1942, the family moved to
Greenfield, where they started a family farm and John discovered his two
passions, tomatoes and motors; and

WHEREAS, For 38 years, John W. Seaman gave tirelessly of his time
and energies as a member of the New York Army National Guard and is
truly deserving of the highest commendation of this Legislative Body;
and

WHEREAS, On August 17, 1959, John W. Seaman began serving his
country as a member of the New York Army National Guard where he was
enlisted with the 247th Medical Company; and

WHEREAS, From January 8-27, 1990, John W. Seaman was part of the
operation REFORGER90 (REturn FORces to GERmany), a deployment to Germany
in the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall to support active troops
with military medical support; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this brave soldier was part of the REFORGER92,
again deploying to Germany to deliver aid to soldiers; and

WHEREAS, After serving his beloved country with honor and
distinction for nearly four decades, John W. Seaman retired at the rank
of Sergeant First Class E-7 on March 25, 1997; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service, John W. Seaman received the
Army Commendation Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense
Service Medal; additionally, in 1974, his unit received the National
Guard Superior Unit Award for maintaining the Guard's highest standards;
and

WHEREAS, John W. Seaman and the former Wanda Dake were united in
marriage in 1961, and together moved to Corinth, New York to raise their
two children, Edward and Lisa; and

WHEREAS, John W. Seaman worked in the Corinth Central School
district for 37 years, retiring as the Superintendent of Buildings,
Grounds, Maintenance, Custodial Staff and the Bus Garage; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, John W. Seaman served the Village of Corinth on the planning
board; he was also the former President of Rondac Campers Association
and former Commander of the Horace D. Washburn American Legion Post No.
533; and

WHEREAS, John W. Seaman died on February 28, 2020, at the age of 82;
and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
John W. Seaman demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John W. Seaman posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John W. Seaman.
