MOURNING the death of Nicholas A. DeVito, loving
husband, father and grandfather, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body, representing the people of the State
of New York, is moved this day to pay tribute to an eminent man of
indomitable faith and dedication whose public service and countless
accomplishments will forever stand as a paradigm and inspiration for
others; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas A. DeVito of Brewster, New York, died on Monday,
January 25, 2021, at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The unity of our State and Nation is built upon the
compassion of individuals such as Nicholas A. DeVito who upheld the
values of community life and who, through their great actions,
epitomized the best of humanity; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas A. DeVito was born in Brooklyn, New York on August
8, 1936, to proud parents Dominic J. and Anna (Miele) DeVito; he was the
beloved husband of the former Edith Sirico; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary man distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Yonkers, New York for 30 years, Nicholas A.
DeVito was a true asset to his community, serving as President of the
Annunciation Men's Club, as well as a proud and active member of I.B.E.W
Local 3; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Nicholas A. DeVito served as a Judge of
Elections, Chairman of Crime Watch and as a member of Fire and Police
Departments, all in the Poconos; he also served as Sergeant-at-Arms with
the American Legion Aragonne Post No. 71, and was a member of the Elks
Lodge 2101, both in Brewster; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas A. DeVito honorably served his country in the
United States Army from 1960 until 1962 in Fort Niagara; and
WHEREAS, A passionate family man and avid train enthusiast, Nicholas
A. DeVito's infinite selflessness and benevolence will shine on through
his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and strength will
forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the countless lives
he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Nicholas A. DeVito leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourning the death of Nicholas A. DeVito, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Nicholas A. DeVito.
