COMMEMORATING the 85th Anniversary of the
neighborhood of Bayside Hills to be celebrated on
May 1, 2021

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the neighborhood of Bayside Hills in
Queens, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be celebrated with an event
on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Bayside Hills' beloved Jubilee Clock; in
the weeks leading up to the festivities, residents are invited to walk
down memory lane with the Bayside Hills Civic Association, the Bayside
Historical Society and the neighborhood's own citizens as they share
stories, old newspaper articles, realtor brochures and photographs of
their beloved community; and

WHEREAS, Bayside Hills, neatly boxed in by 211th Street, 48th
Avenue, Springfield Boulevard and the Long Island Expressway, was
established in 1936, and is home to more than 1,200 households; though
known for its 33 street malls, two 48th Avenue gatehouses and its 216th
Street Jubilee Clock, the neighborhood has plenty of lesser-known and
less visible tales to tell; and

WHEREAS, According to the Bayside Historical Society, the 117 acres
which became Bayside Hills was the Cain Farm from 1852 to 1917, which
had stood at the southern end of Bell Avenue near the south side of
Rocky Hill Road, or what is now 48th Avenue, near the present entrance
to Bayside Hills; the Cain Farmhouse was converted into a golf clubhouse
after the property was purchased by Belleclaire Hotel in Manhattan and
transformed into the Belleclaire Country Club; and

WHEREAS, The golf course operated as the Queensboro Golf and Country
Club and The Old Belleclaire until the property was sold to homebuilders
in the 1930s, and became the Bayside Hills development; and

WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the neighborhood of Bayside Hills continues its
commitment to enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a
positive business, institutional and educational climate, and providing
all essential services; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the neighborhood of Bayside Hills,
recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the
life of the community of Queens, and the State of New York as a whole;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael Feiner, President, Bayside Hills Civic
Association.
