MOURNING the death of Lawrence E. Goswick,
ex-Chief of the Piermont Fire Department,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Goswick, affectionately known to many as Tex,
died on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Goswick was born on April 16, 1929, to Richard
Lawrence and Josephine Landis Goswick in Weatherford, Texas; in 1937, he
and his family moved to Piermont, New York; and

WHEREAS, In April of 1945, Lawrence E. Goswick joined the Piermont
Fire Department, and quickly worked his way up through the ranks to the
office of Chief three times, 1964-1965, 1975-1976, and 1991-1992; he
also served as President of Empire Hose Company for many years; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence E. Goswick genuinely loved being a firefighter,
and through his strong work ethic, great courage and positive attitude,
he inspired numerous fellow firefighters, including 23 members of his
own family, to join the Department; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his valuable service with the Piermont Fire
Department, Lawrence E. Goswick proudly served his country as a member
of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and worked for the
Robert Gair Paper Company, the International Brotherhood of Carpenters,
Local No. 15, and the Village of Piermont DPW, where he served as the
building inspector until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, A proud fire chief and veteran, Lawrence E. Goswick was
instrumental in organizing the Orangetown Chiefs Council in 1974, was a
lifetime member of the NY/NJ and Rockland County Chiefs Associations,
and held the title of Commander of the V.F.W. Post 7462 in Piermont; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by four brothers, Jesse, William, Francis and
Harold; one sister, Jean; ex-wife, Cecelia; and lifetime partner, Donna
Lynch, Lawrence E. Goswick is survived by three sons, Jesse, Edward
(Eleanor), and James (Jackie); two daughters, Genevieve and Darlene; one
stepdaughter, Lisa; eight grandchildren, Lawrence, Joe, Cecelia, Jesse,
Jason, Danielle, Lauren and Mike; his great-grandchildren and many great
nieces and nephews, as well as a legion of fellow firefighters and
friends who will long cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his meritorious life, Lawrence E. Goswick
touched many through his kindness and commitment to service, and, as we
recall the loss of this great man, we memorialize his remarkable life
and the enormous impact he had on everyone with whom he came in contact;
and


WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of a
courageous firefighter who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Lawrence E. Goswick, ex-Chief of the Piermont Fire
Department, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Ex-Chief Lawrence E. Goswick.
