We're always grateful for opportunities to support our local public libraries. The Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions are lucky to have an incredible network of public libraries offering access to books and other reading activities, including summer reading opportunities.

Addison, N.Y., July 19—State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) recently visited the Addison Public Library summer reading program to help promote the importance of summer reading and praise the central role public libraries play in many area communities.

O'Mara and Palmesano said, "We're always grateful for opportunities to support our local public libraries.  The Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions are lucky to have an incredible network of public libraries offering access to books and other reading activities, including summer reading opportunities."

The New York Library Association presented O'Mara with its 2016 "Outstanding Advocate for Libraries Award."  Palmesano is a member of the Assembly Libraries and Education Technology Committee.

O'Mara also reminded area students and families that he is sponsoring an online reading program this summer in partnership with the New York State Library and public libraries across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, and statewide.

“I’m glad to have this opportunity to join with so many local public libraries and other groups and organizations seeking to encourage summer reading,” said O’Mara.  “The Senate’s online summer reading program offers a convenient opportunity for students and their parents to enjoy the benefits and the rewards of summer reading together.  Our region is incredibly fortunate to have such an outstanding network of public libraries providing access to books and other reading activities, materials and opportunities.”
