On June 19th, Senator Montgomery as a proud co-sponsor voted yes on S4865A/A7058A(Hoylman), which would ensure predatory real estate speculators can no longer take advantage of families who inherit property after the loss of a loved one, through partitions. This legislation would allow co-owners the right to first refusal to buy out the property, and require courts to prioritize these partitions.

Senator Montgomery continues to perpetuate her commitment to housing justice and tenants’ rights; providing provisions and protections for all NYS renters. Especially in a time where gentrification and other elements are forcing black homeowners out of neighborhoods they've lived in for generations and displacing many others. Following the passage of S.1688 which contains provisions to protect homeowners from potential fraud and deed theft, coupled with the passage of the Unified Partitions of Heirs Property Act, homeowners are afforded more and more protections to combat the various elements of being displaced or forced out of one's home.
