Statement From Senator Luis Sepúlveda On Police Violence

Luis R. Sepúlveda

May 29, 2020

“What we are witnessing across America is tragically not new. We know this is the glaring structural injustices, racism, and inequalities of our country being continuously exposed. And it is being amplified — by live videos, by a bigoted President condoning violence against his own people, by abuse of police force, by the worst economic crisis we’ve seen in a century. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery — what will it take to end police brutality and the murder of black men and women in America? A global pandemic does not mean the fight for justice is on pause. I stand in solidarity with my black brothers and sisters, and must continue the work — as legislators, organizers, voters, and individuals to combat this horror and rebuild our society on a true foundation of equality and justice. We shall overcome.”
