Veterans Hall of Fame
Each year the New York State Senate holds its Veterans Hall of Fame Ceremony to recognize distinguished veterans from across our State and thank them for their service. These individuals have been recognized not only for their service to our nation, but for their continued efforts on behalf of the community, especially in support of their fellow veterans.
One of these extraordinary individuals honored at this year’s Veterans Hall of Fame was Dan Guida.
First Lieutenant Dan Guida was the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame inductee for the 1st Senate District. A Vietnam veteran and tireless advocate for fellow service members, Lt. Guida was recognized for his courageous military service and decades of dedication to the veteran community on Long Island.
Dan Guida was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and quickly rose through the ranks, attending Officer Candidate School and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in early 1967. In Vietnam, Lt. Guida led search and destroy missions in I Corps during pivotal battles including the 1968 TET Counteroffensive, Pineapple Forest, and Burlington Trail. He later served as Assistant Commandant and Chief Security Officer at Americal Division Headquarters. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star.
After returning home, Lt. Guida earned his CPA and became a respected community leader. As Quartermaster of VFW Post 6249 in Rocky Point, he helps organize fundraising events that support veterans and organizations like Tunnel to Towers. He also volunteers at the Long Island State Veterans Home and speaks at local schools about the Vietnam War, sharing firsthand insights with students.
Lieutenant Guida is a shining example of selfless service. From the battlefield to his tireless work on behalf of veterans here at home, his legacy is one of courage, leadership, and compassion.
Congratulations to Dan and all our veterans inducted into the 2025 Veterans Hall of Fame. Theirs lives have been dedicated to service, both in uniform and beyond and are testaments to the amazing men and women who have served and continue to serve in our Armed Forces.
Anthony Palumbo
Senator, 1st District
