
NYSABPRHAL's 54th Annual Legislative Conference

On February 15th, Senator Serrano participated in the 54th Annual Legislative Conference held in Albany, which was organized by the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislators, Inc. During the conference, he hosted an engaging workshop titled “Museums as Community Connectors.” This session aimed to foster a meaningful dialogue among representatives from various museums across New York State, highlighting the pivotal role museums play in our communities.
The workshop included a presentation followed by a panel-led discussion featuring distinguished representatives from institutions such as the Museum of the City of New York, the Heckscher Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor. Each panelist shared their unique perspectives on how museums can serve as vital cultural hubs that promote education, diversity, and community engagement.
In addition to this workshop, Senator Serrano partnered with Assembly Member Michelle Solages and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to host a special screening of the documentary "San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood." This compelling film delves into the rich history and cultural significance of the San Juan Hill neighborhood, underscoring the importance of preserving and celebrating our shared heritage.
