Statement from Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) on State Supreme Court’s Ruling for 11th Congressional Redistricting Case

“State Democrats continue to make a mockery of our judicial system with decisions that defy logic and partisan Judges who base their rulings more on politics than the law. This ruling seeks to expand political power for Democrats at the expense of justice, integrity and fairness.

Justice Jeffrey H. Pearlman, a longtime political operative for Governor Hochul and Senate Democrats should have recused himself from this case to protect judicial integrity. The mere appearance of a conflict of interest warranted his recusal.

His decision to rule on this case despite objections not only puts the result into question unnecessarily, but it also erodes the public’s trust in our Judicial Branch, the State’s most sacrosanct institution.

We now find a State Judicial Branch where Democrat judges totally disregard basic ethical considerations as they work to attain decisions based solely on politics. The current state of the judiciary has become hyper-partisan allowing politics to supersede the rule of law and appropriate judicial conduct.

The result, a judge who put ego over ethics and a decision that put politics over the public good.”

New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo is the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
