Make Your Voice Heard - Stop Rising Energy Costs

Stop Rising Energy Costs
Rethink the Unaffordable State Energy Plan

New Yorkers are already facing an energy affordability crisis, driven by inflation, rising home heating and electric bills, and high gas prices. While protecting our environment and conserving natural resources is important, the “Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act” (CLCPA) is unsustainable and unaffordable.

It’s time to make your voice heard! A public comment period on a petition before the State Public Service Commission (PSC) ends Friday, May 1. The petition asks the PSC to evaluate whether to temporarily suspend or modify obligations under the Renewable Energy Program established by the CLCPA and to hold a hearing on the issue.

PSC hearings on an updated state energy plan could mark a critical turning point for New York’s energy future. Calls to rethink the current plan have grown since a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) memo confirmed what Senate Republicans have long argued: the CLCPA’s mandates are unrealistic, unattainable, and unaffordable. If New Yorkers are struggling with utility bills now, costs could rise even further—potentially exceeding $5 per gallon for gas and adding thousands annually to home heating.

These policies are central to the affordability crisis, and this hearing is a critical first step, and all New Yorkers should make their voices heard.
