The Downtown Staten Island Council is kicking off it's fifth annual Drive-In Movies event Thursday night.

Closing in on the fifth year of the Downtown Staten Island Council's Drive-In Movies, the non-profit organization will hold a kickoff for the event tomorrow night at Da Noi Restaurant at 138 Fingerboard Road in Fort Wadsworth.

The kickoff will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will feature dinner and speeches by North Shore City Councilman Kenneth Mitchell and state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn).

Over the course of four Fridays and Saturdays in June, popular musicals like "Grease" and "West Side Story" will be screened on Front Street in Stapleton.

"Drive-ins provide a romantic and nostalgic entertainment alternative under the stars, and our intent is to create an event the whole family can enjoy," according to the Staten Island Council.

In 2008, the Downtown Drive-In Movies drew more than 3,500 attendees.
