Gianaris Pushes ‘New Way Forward’ On Redistricing

Capital Tonight's Liz Benjamin highlights Senator Michael Gianaris' push for a New Way Forward on the way Redistricting is done in Albany.

Sen. Mike Gianaris is the latest Senate Democrat to appear in a Web video for the minority’s “keep your promise, pass the pledge” campaign – an effort to pressure the Republicans to make good on their collective agreement with former NYC Mayor Ed Koch during the 2010 campaign to support redistricting reform.

The video opens with New Yorkers being interviewed outside City Hall in Lower Manhattan and commenting on the bizarrely-shaped districts (Lincoln riding a broomstick makes an appearance).

Then Gianaris comes on the screen to tout an independent redistricting commission as a “new way forward.”
