Ball will tour the fair and to meet with some of the exhibitors at the invitation of State Sen. Patrick Gallivan, R-Elma.

“The Wyoming County Fair is where we celebrate our agricultural heritage and I look forward to welcoming Commissioner Ball to our community,’’ Gallivan said in a news release.  ‘‘As the state’s leader in dairy production, Wyoming County plays a pivotal role in New York’s agriculture based economy and with the support of the commissioner and others, we have an opportunity to further enhance the agribusiness industry here and across the state.’’

In addition to touring the fairgrounds, the commissioner is scheduled to meet with the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors during its annual meeting at the fair.

“I appreciate that Commissioner Ball is taking time out of his busy schedule to visit Wyoming County.  He understands the hard work and dedication that is required to operate a successful farm and the importance agriculture plays, not only in our local economy, but statewide,” said  Doug Berwanger, Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Commissioners.

Ball is a native New Yorker and was nominated Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Markets in January 2014.  He is the owner and operator of Schoharie Valley Farms, a 200 acre farm in Schoharie, which produces a wide range of vegetable crops, small fruits and greenhouse crops.

The Wyoming County Fair runs Aug. 9-16.
