Senator Honored at "Hugh Farley Day"

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) said Sept. 12, 2016, was a wonderful yet “bittersweet” day for him as he was honored by the Fulton County Board of Supervisors, Charlton Town Board and Gloversville Public Library for his years of service and dedication to his constituents in the 49th Senatorial District.

“I was very honored and touched by the kind words and ceremonies that were held,” Senator Farley said, “but the day was also a little bittersweet as I near the end of my Senate career.”

“It was one of the most moving days of my entire life and it will always be a special memory to me,” he added.

The events on Monday the 12th  started in Johnstown with “Senator Hugh Farley Day” held by the Fulton County Board of Supervisors. The board presented Senator Farley with a proclamation honoring him for his years of service and the numerous accomplishments.

The next stop for Senator Farley was the Gloversville Public Library. As Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries, he was proud to secure a $2 million grant for a major construction of the library building.

“This is a very exciting project that will preserve this architectural treasure, improve library services, expand the library’s role in the social life of the community, and give an economic boost and vibrancy to downtown” said Senator Farley.  “I am thrilled to have obtained these State funds for this important renovation project.”

“The improved facility will be a tremendous asset to Gloversville and Fulton County, as well as a vital part of downtown.  This is not just an investment in a building, but is an investment in the community and a vote of confidence in its future,” said Senator Farley.  “Many local residents have worked diligently to preserve and improve the Library and strengthen downtown, and I am pleased to join them in bringing this project to fruition.”

During the presentation, library officials presented Senator Farley with a plaque that will be installed in the library after its renovation project.

The day ended for Senator Farley with a special presentation at Charlton’s Town Board meeting honoring Senator Farley for his years of service.

“Charlton also has a special place in my heart,” Senator Farley said. “I have always enjoyed working with local residents and walking in the Founder’s Day parade and will miss this interaction.”
