After long battle, NY passes Child Victims Act

Newly elected Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, who defeated former Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein in November, was among the elected officials who disclosed childhood abuse as they cast their vote.

"I am a child sexual abuse survivor, and this bill is incredibly important to me," Biaggi said. "The shame that abuse creates turns often times into silence. ... For me, that silence lasted 25 years."
