More than 500 people came to a forum this weekend to discuss issues involving LIPA, including its attempt to reduce its taxes.

State Senator Jim Gaughran led the forum at Northport High School, which also drew numerous other elected officials.

“A solution is needed before it’s too late,” Gaughran said in his opening remarks.

The meeting lasted for more than two hours, kicking off with a performance from the high school’s marching team. The school hosted the meeting, providing room for school representatives to make their voices heard on how the tax breaks will affect the district and community as a whole.
