Glen Head Residents Concerned About Cost of New Water Tank

The tank was constructed in the 1930s, so old that it does not meet current standards.

The problem is the cost.

At $6.2 million, it’s nearly double what customers were told it would cost.

Since American Water is a private company, customers are paying a lot more compared to other Long Island residents who have public water suppliers.

American Water customers filed a complaint with the state because they are worried they will now have the burden of paying for the water tank with higher bills.

State Sen. James Gaughran is also concerned, saying, “Because the last time, they had reviewed a rate increase that was adopted by American Water, they found out it was based on fraudulent information.”
