Senator hears concerns about overdevelopment on LI

During a Town Hall meeting in late July, North Shore residents spoke with New York State Senator Jim Gaughran about environmental impacts of over-development and the issues caused by increased condominium housing, lesser-used shopping centers and parking lots that have reduced green spaces, trees and natural environment.

Gaughran, who represents the 5th district on the North Shore, from Glen Cove to Huntington, advised that land use and development on Long Island and other nearby suburbs of the megapolis New York, including Westchester, upstate towns, most of Connecticut and New Jersey have faced issues related to zoning laws, managing demand for development and how one municipality’s development changes planning, layouts and lifestyles of its neighbors.
