Report: Public funding needs more oversight

The state Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operation released the report on Monday, focusing on state and local public authorities, while using a Town of Montgomery authority as one of two case studies.

Authorities are government-sponsored or affiliated nonprofits that handle government functions such as running transportation, sewer and housing systems. IDAs, which weigh tax breaks and economic incentives to attract and retain jobs, also are public authorities.
