Over $1.7 million will be used for library capital projects across New York’s 50th Senate District, Senator John Mannion announced Friday.

The funding was included in the 2021-22 New York State Budget.

The projects will improve accessibility, energy efficiency, security, HVAC, parking lots, and outdoor spaces at several libraries.

“I’m extremely pleased to have secured over $1.7 million to enhance the visitor experience and community value of local libraries across the 50th Senate District,” said Sen. Mannion. “Modern libraries are a marvel; they are catchalls where we learn, play, and gather with our neighbors. If you haven't visited your public library in a while, I encourage you to take advantage of this valuable community service."

The Onondaga County Public Library will receive $81,316 to fix the deteriorating parking lot and surrounding fence which has become a safety hazard. The lot will be repaved, and the fence will be rebuilt.

The Onondaga Free Library will receive $12,975 to upgrade the interior lighting to improve lighting quality and increase energy efficiency.

The Fayetteville Free Library will receive $52,575 to improve outdoor safety by leveling the lawn, adding an ADA viewing area, adding solar lighting, and a perimeter barrier.

The Manlius Library will receive $2,547 to build an occupancy monitoring system and contactless pickup station as well as upgrade window efficiency.

The Marcellus Free Library will receive $157,749 to upgrade the interior lighting and construct an outdoor amphitheater and boardwalk for safe outdoor programs.
