Two Central New York state legislators want to increase the earning limitations for retired law enforcement officers.

Assemblymember Al Stirpe wants to change the limits within the Retirement and Social Security Law from $35,000 to $65,000. Sen. John Mannion will sponsor the bill in the Senate.

Stirpe said the bill will help to recruit and retain talent, reduce the financial burden on municipalities, and help guide future generations of law enforcement. The bill would take effect immediately if passed and would sunset after five years.

Both Stirpe and Mannion are up for re-election this year, Mannion is running in the 50th Senate District against Rebecca Shiroff, and Stirpe is running in the 127th District against Karen Ayoub.
