STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon was joined by representatives from the non-profit organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a representative from New York state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton’s office and grieving families Tuesday morning to commemorate the victims of drunk and drugged driving.

As part of an ongoing series of events for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the district attorney, in partnership with MADD, lined the grassy area on the corner of Victory Boulevard and Forest Avenue with shoes, slippers and boots of all sizes. The footwear was meant to serve as a reminder of the victims lost to what McMahon referred to as “terrible anti-social and criminal behavior.”
