Will New York pass Medical Aid in Dying?

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — Democratic state legislators behind the Medical Aid in Dying Act expect its imminent passing in both the Assembly and the Senate. Several of those legislators—including the bill’s longtime sponsor, Assemblymember Amy Paulin—held a press conference on Tuesday to thank and congratulate advocates for supporting it.
Still, Democratic State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton—co-prime sponsor of the Senate version of the bill—said that the Medical Aid in Dying Act is personal for her. She said a constituent who advocated for the bill died last year shortly after it failed in the legislature. She called the vote “an amazing step” toward honoring people seeking peace at the end of their life.
