Audit blasts oversight over lingering concerns at Staten Island apartment complex

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — For years, an estimated $47 million worth of health and safety repairs at a Staten Island apartment complex have been identified by officials but never resolved.

State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, a Democrat representing the borough’s North Shore, issued the following statement:

“Across Senate District 23, thousands of New Yorkers live in Mitchell-Lama housing, and many of them are older adults living on a fixed income.

“As affordability, especially as it pertains to finding stable housing, remains a top issue statewide, Mitchell-Lama is one of the few options available for middle-income people. As a state, we need to ensure that these apartments remain safe, livable, and affordable.”
