Launched in 1985 as a way for people to meet and get to know their local precincts in an informal setting, the event is held nationwide on the first Tuesday of August. The goal is to strengthen the partnership and trust between law enforcement and the community, thereby creating safer neighborhoods.

Elected officials like state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso stopped by too as local residents and officers were honored for their contributions to the community.
