STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Nearly 300 Staten Islanders gathered Sunday at Temple Israel Reform Congregation in Randall Manor for a free document shredding event aimed at protecting residents from identity theft and fraud.
District Attorney Michael E. McMahon and state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton partnered to host the event, which allowed residents to safely dispose of sensitive personal documents at no charge.
“This Sunday’s event was no exception and I thank Senator Scarcella-Spanton, our lovely hosts at Temple Israel Reform Congregation, and the nearly 300 Staten Islanders who joined us this day to protect themselves from identity theft and fraudulent scams,” McMahon said.
Scarcella-Spanton said the partnership addresses a growing concern in the community.
“In a world where identity theft and scams are far too common, it’s important to me to give my constituents opportunities to safely dispose of documents containing sensitive information,” Scarcella-Spanton said. “I am proud to have partnered with District Attorney McMahon to increase the accessibility of paper shredding to ensure our community remains safe.”
