Senator Bill Stachowski Delivers Over 10,000 Plants from Eden Valley Growers to PUSH, Seneca Babcock and BMHA for Community Gardens
State Senator Bill Stachowski (D 58th) today coordinated the delivery of over 10,000 plants, including flowers and vegetable plants from the Eden Valley Growers to be used by PUSH (People United for Sustainable Housing), the Seneca Babcock neighborhood gardens and the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority for community gardens.
Senator Stachowski had the plants delivered to the PUSH facility at 92, 19th Street in Buffalo after they were picked up at the Eden Valley Growers facility at 7502 Gowanda State Road in Eden. Volunteers from AmeriCorps and the BMHA picked up over 300 flats of multiple plants to be used by the various agencies.
A believer in utilizing the varied resources of his 58th District, Senator Stachowski started the program last year after discussing the concept with well known Eden farmer Paul Zittel. “My District is wide spread and includes some of the urban areas of Buffalo as well as the agricultural rich south towns,” said Stachowski. “In an effort to bring the two together I arranged for the pickup and delivery of these thousands of young plants to be used by the agencies involved to help beautify their neighborhoods as well as promote urban vegetable gardening. Last year was so successful that we wanted to grow the event and we reached out to Sarah Gordon of PUSH, Dave Weaver of the Seneca Babcock gardens and Bob Bukowski of the BMHA. This year the Eden Valley Growers have been fantastic with their support and even greater generosity and I see this as a win-win for everyone involved,” added Stachowski.
The farms that participated on behalf of the Eden Valley Growers were Amos Zittel & Sons, Inc., W.D. Henry & Sons, Inc., Henry W. Agle & Sons, Inc., MCR Farms, D & J Brawdy Farms, Inc., Westview Farms & Greenhouses, Kenneth A. Henry & Sons, Inc., and Ronald Draudt & Sons, Inc.
