City Recreation Centers, Pools, Spray Parks Ready for Summer Vacation!

Now that school is out, Recreation Centers around the city will begin their summer programming, which will run from June 28 through August 20, generally from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities at the centers range from sports and games to swimming, meals, nature activities, arts and crafts, community service projects, and more. Full summer schedules for each center are on the city’s web site. Visit www.cityofrochester.gov/recreation to link to the centers and access complete schedules.

Three recreation center pools, five high school pools and several on-demand spray parks will open on Monday, June 28, to help you beat the heat this summer. Durand Eastman Beach and Genesee Valley Park opened earlier this season.
Recreation Center Pools – opening June 28 (9:30 a.m. to 7  p.m.) 
o Flint Street Recreation Center, 271 Flint St.  (June 28 through Aug. 20) 428-7001 
o Avenue D Recreation Center, 200  Avenue D (June 28 through Aug. 20) 428-7934 
These two pools are  shallow, in-ground outdoor pools and offer free beginner-level swim  lessons on weekday mornings (register at pools or call 428-7888 for more  information). Open swim at these centers take place noon to 7 p.m.  every weekday. These pools are open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,  and are closed Sundays. 
o Adams Street Pool, 85 Adams St. (June  28 through Aug. 21) 428-7456 
Adams St. is an indoor pool that  includes both shallow and deep ends. Free lessons for both beginner and  advanced levels are available on weekday mornings (register at the pool  or call 428-7888 for more information). Open swim is at 2 p.m. and 6:30  p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and  Thursdays; and 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Spray Parks 
Several  spray parks will be open daily from dawn to dusk beginning June 28.  These are on-demand sites that will be available at any time during open  hours. Locations of Spray Park Sites are: 
o Manhattan Square  Park, 353 Court St.(at the play area, NOT in the main fountain) 
o  Edgerton Community Center, 41 Backus St.(not available until July 5  week) 
o North Street Community Center, 700 North St. 
o Humboldt  Recreation Center, 1045 Atlantic Ave. 
o Fourth and Peck Park, Fourth  and Peck St. 
o Troup Street Park and Playground, Troup St. 
o  Carter Street Recreation Center, 500 Carter St. 
High  School Pools 
Five high school pools will also open  Monday. The pools are located at: 
o Benjamin Franklin High  School, 950 Norton St., #13 entrance 
o Douglass Preparatory High  School, 940 Fernwood Park, tennis court side entrance 
o James Monroe  High School, 164 Alexander St., Pear St. entrance 
o John Marshall  High School, 180 Ridgeway Ave., Avis entrance 
o Wilson Foundation  Academy at Madison, 200 Genesee St., McCree Way entrance 
Free  Summer Swim Lessons will be held at the high school pools Monday through  Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to noon. Advance registration is required. Register  by calling 428-7888. Adult laps will be Monday through Friday, noon to 1  p.m. During this time there is also a parent and child swim (one Adult  must accompany each child under six years old). Flotation devices are  allowed.) Open swim sessions take place Monday through Friday from 1 to 4  p.m. Group usage is available on selected Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to  noon.
